Here it is, the moment you’ve all been waiting for.
Our number #1 favorite venue in Colorado is…drumroll please.
1. Devil’s Thumb Ranch
DJ Ryan calls it “the perfect mountain getaway,” and that’s exactly what it is. Devil’s Thumb Ranch is a truly magical mountain resort. It’s our top favorite venue for your big event, but we would recommend you go ahead and just stay for the whole week.
Whether you are coming in the summer or winter, you can enjoy this fabulous pool and Jacuzzi with a view of the mountainside. In the summer, grab your friends and soak up the Colorado sunny skies, or in the winter, warm up in the Jacuzzi with a glass of wine and gaze at the snow-capped mountains. This Jacuzzi is open year-round thanks to its environmentally friendly heat source (geothermal heat). It’s like you’re practically saving the earth just by taking a dip.
The spa is this 18,000 square foot sanctuary overlooking the ranch. You can have your pick of the services such as a hot-stone massage, facial, soak, scrub, wax, or you can book a package and get the best of everything. We’d say go for the couple’s suite package and start your marriage off right.
Let’s start with winter. We’ve got cross-country skiing, fatbiking, ice skating and tubing, not to mention the simple pleasures like cozying up to a warm fireplace in your Adirondack-styled log cabin. More on that later.
In the summer, you can spend your days horseback riding, zip-lining, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and of course, the previously mentioned saltwater pool and spa.
Oh and there’s yoga with a view too, in case you aren’t already relaxed enough.
Just like it sounds, The 50,000 square foot High Lonesome Lodge overlooks the entire ranch and it is perfect for housing your wedding party and guests. With 31 guest rooms and 4 guest suites, you can have all your family and friends close by. The suites are ideal for day-of festivities, like getting your bridal parties’ hair and make-up done and pre-wedding photos with the girls (mimosas please). Vaulted wood ceilings, stone fireplaces, spacious bathrooms and a private porch with views of the Continental Divide pretty much seal the deal.
Ready for some alone time with your new spouse? We recommend hiding away in one of the romantic log cabins in the woods, complete with a fireplace, porch and old-fashioned slipper foot tub.
When it comes to the food, Devil’s Thumb has it all. From your morning cappuccino and fresh-baked pastry to fine dining (think bone marrow, duck prosciutto and Wagyu carpaccio), deliciousness abounds. The Wagyu beef comes from their very own ranch-raised herd, and all the food is organic and grown locally whenever possible, plus it is prepared by an award-winning executive chef. And they have a wine cellar, with beautiful cherry wine racks and beams crafted from 150-year-old trees harvested on the owner’s family land.
The Big Day
Depending on your party size and the time of year, you can have your ceremony right there in the great outdoors, or inside the Broad Axe Barn or the High Lonesome Barn, where the views are honestly just as good.
The Broad Axe Barn is built from hand hewn beams recovered from a Civil War-era barn and features a 25-foot vaulted ceiling, 2,200 sq. ft. deck with stunning views of the Continental Divide, and can seat up to 160 guests. The High Lonesome Barn is the same sort of masterpiece, but can accommodate a larger crowd, up to 350 people. DJ Yan says “The view here is completely unparalleled and the ability to customize the space with your own lighting and décor makes it even more amazing.”

So, go ahead and plan your big day here. You might want to stay for the honeymoon too. It’s ok, you can tell your friends you’re going to Jamaica so no one knows you’re even in the country.
